Parents Noticeboard: December

Dear Parents,

Its hard to believe our first term is over and Its time to get ready for the holidays! We have some good news. Kg 3 class has got its own new interactive whiteboard. We can't wait to use it from January.

Today your child has brought a letter home for you. Please do read it and reply back to them! :)
November Recap:
The month of November was fun. The children enjoyed learning about "Transport". They especially loved the "parachute" play! We then introduced another theme on 'My city and its Environment." Where children learnt about where they live and its surrounding.

It is rewarding to see our children growing academically and socially more and more each day! This term we have accomplished some interesting beginners "creative writing". In creative writing children write sentences about a given topic or from a picture provided.

We have also provided each child with their own spelling dictionary.  The Measured Mom has created these Spelling Dictionary printables for your young children.
These printable spelling dictionary serves two purposes:
1) Its word lists are a resource for children as they seek the spellings of words commonly used in writing.

2) It is a recording space for children to write the spellings of words they want to use in their writing.

We encourage you to let your child write simple sentences with drawings about any of their special experience during the holidays. We look forward to reading them out loud in class.

Please continue reading! If you have internet access you can read online on www.oxfordowl.co.uk Log in as Class: Kg 3 Password: 5253

We have also introduced extra sports coaching for Kg 2 and Kg 3 as an extra curricular after school activity. We encourage you to send your child.

We want to wish you all a happy and safe Christmas break and a wonderful New Year!
 PLEASE TAKE NOTE:

My City and Its Environment

We introduced the theme by showing them a globe. Showed them that this is a small version, a model of how the earth looks. We began by showing them the place on the earth where we lived, name the city and country. Children learnt the basic idea about the difference between city centre and country side.

We created our own city model!

Children also learnt about our country Kenya and about the Kenyan flag.

Transport

Zoom! Yes our Kg 3 zoomed to learn about the different kinds of means of transport. Children learnt about the transport that move in the land, air and sea. We also did tire printing.

We learnt about the basic car and road safety. The different roads sign, traffic lights and how to cross the road safely. Children made their own traffic lights and we took them to show how to cross the road the correct way!

We explored about the two different types of 'air transport' parachute and the hot air balloon. We made a craft for the air balloon. We did a simple experiment by trying out a home made parachute. We dropped the parachute from the tree house. Children noticed how air resistance slows down the parachute and it landed softly to the ground.

During Burhanuddin's Star of the week, his mother was kind enough to do an art activity. Where we made chu chu train! The children coloured the train engine and we made our own Kg 3 train!

After we completed our concept we took a trip down town to the "Nairobi Railway Museum". We viewed the old engines, carriages and much more. The children enjoyed the train ride the most. We also got to climb the bridge to reach the museum. Children got to view the city and the railway station.
